Phone Sales In 2013 Show Android In The Lead

Everyone has a smartphone, but not everyone has the same kind of smartphone. Phone sales in 2013 prove just that. Every cell phone manufacturer has their own operating system and tries as hard as they can to get you on board, though it may be easier for some than it is for others. However, a new survey shows that Android far outbeat any of its competitors in cell phone sales last year.

Android Takes The Global Win
On a global level, Android is by far the winning company. A new survey shows that 79% of all smartphone shipments in 2013 were for Android phones, according to Android Community. On top of that, global growth in 2013 was 41% year over year, which shows just how many more people are starting to choose Android in the last year. Some people are surprised to hear it is Android on top instead of Apple, but you have to remember that Apple is more popular in the US than anywhere else in the world. These are worldwide numbers we are talking about here.

What Caused The Growth?
One thing to consider is that a lot of Android’s growth year over year might be due to the fact that more people are buying smartphones and not necessarily due to Android miraculously selling more product. However, it is still impressive that consumers are picking Android over everything else when they make that change to a better phone that has smartphone capabilities. The numbers are very impressive and show that Google is dominating the marketplace for phone sales.

Apple vs Google Success
When it comes to phone sales, you have to realize that it is a lot easier for Google to have a lot of success than it is for Apple. Yes, Apple does have innovative technology, and people really love running all their devices on the same platform at home. However, Apple only offers one mobile phone for you to choose from. It is either the iPhone or nothing. Maybe there are different versions of the iPhone available, but it is still just one type of phone to choose from. Android is offered as an operating system on multiple phones, meaning Google has the advantage. If you don’t like one of the Android options, you can just pick another one. It is as easy as that! Maybe part of the reason why Google has seen so much success with the Android platform is that it is widely available for phones while Apple keeps things pretty controlled with just one phone option.

Still Arguing Over Smartphones
If you haven’t noticed, the argument is over which smartphone sells more and a lot less about whether or not people own smartphones. Because we know that phone sales are just increasing for the smartphone market, you will need to focus more on mobile advertising. Your business needs to keep track of the smartphone trends, so you can know the best way to reach your customers. If you know what kind of phone your customers have or how they use those phones, ad targeting becomes much easier. But, at the very least, you know all your customers have texting, so you can always text advertisements and get a great response.
