Galaxy Smartwatch Now Giving Directions

You already heard about the Galaxy Smartwatch and all the cool features that come with it. We’ve moved into the world of wearable technology, and although it isn’t perfect yet, it is still a huge leap from where we were before. The question now is where we will go from here. And maybe the answer to that question was just answered at the 2014 CES.

All About The Smartwatch

Here’s what you need to know about the Galaxy Smartwatch. You have to own the Samsung Galaxy Note to be able to get it. The watch will not pair with any other phone. Also, it is not cheap. Between the phone and the watch, you will run yourself up a pretty high bill hitting into the thousands. If you can get past the high price tag, though, you’ll end up with a pretty neat piece of wearable technology. The Galaxy Smartwatch works to let you see text messages or answer phone calls. You don’t even have to pull out your phone. Instead, you can just talk into your watch like some sort of spy agent. Though it doesn’t have all the perks people would like in wearable technology such as this, it is a huge advancement over things released previously.

A Smartwatch Controls Your Car

The newest ability of the Galaxy Smartwatch is the ability to control the BMW i3. It is no surprise the technology conference would announce a smart car with the ability to communicate with a smart watch, according to the LA Times. Announced at CES 2014, the i3 concept car is about to communicate with the smartwatch to get directions from you. All you have to do is pull up your smartphone contacts list and send the address to your car to get exactly where you need to go. This can be much more convenient since you can send directions while still inside the house or have it closer to you instead of trying to reach across the dash to get directions.

Why Do You Care?

Some people aren’t too impressed with the technology thinking it is just as easy to type it into your GPS as it is to type it into your watch, but the watch is mostly used for addresses already in your address list. The best part of it, though, is that you can get turn by turn directions that alter based on traffic and constructions blocks. That means you can be on your way to a friends house and skip an accident on the freeway to take an alternative route because of this great technology. Though not necessary in smaller cities where roadblocks don’t impede traffic to terribly, the ability to update based on road conditions is invaluable in big cities where you can get stuck in traffic for hours.

Can You Get It Now?

The only downside to the new vehicle from BMW was that it was just a concept. It isn’t quite ready to sell, so you won’t be able to send directions through your phone just yet. At the very least, you can still get your smartwatch though. And the Galaxy Smartwatch is mobile technology definitely worth trying.

Price Increases In Mobile Market?

The mobile market has seen a lot of intense marketing in the last few weeks. There has been a war among the leading phone carriers to try and get on top. The question is, will this kind of competition hurt you or help you? Let’s take a look and see if we can figure out exactly how the wars in the mobile market will affect you.

It All Started With T-Mobile

The start of this aggressive war came when T-Mobile began working harder to steal customers from other phone carriers. The marketing strategies were used to get more people to switch over, according to Reuters.. But that is nothing new. All these companies have worked hard to steal competitors. But T-Mobile was more aggressive about it this time by specifically targeting customers of the top mobile carriers. The first real strike came from AT&T. Its attack was specifically on T-Mobile. AT&T told customers that they could get up to $450 in credits by switching from T-Mobile to their carrier services. Sprint began to announce bigger discounts for family plans too, but it wasn’t as targeted of an attack as AT&T’s was. In response to that, T-Mobile began offering to pay cancellation fees for customers who want to switch from another carrier over to them. The car continues, and the worrisome part about it is whether or not Verizon will respond.

Stocks Not Doing Well

Though stocks have gone up and down during this whole thing, overall, they are considered unstable. The reason why these kinds of wars would worry stockholders is because it shows instability in the company and that there may be a bigger problem soon. If companies keep spending money to fight the competition instead of spending money on innovation and smart marketing strategies, they will waste a lot of money and be no richer in customers. The inability to predict the future and which of the mobile carriers will get ahead through the war makes holding stock in any of the companies fairly risky right now.

The Competition: Economics

Typically, friendly competition means your prices drop, but on the mobile market, that might not be the case. The mobile carriers are spending outrageous amounts of money to try and keep up with the competition on both marketing and credits for customers. Though the customers may enjoy the slight price decrease for a while, the money has to be made up somewhere. It is like when you buy furniture and they throw in an extra night stand. Really, they already put the cost of the nightstand into your price, so you are paying for it either way. The cost of all the credits they are giving you will quickly be made up in expensive plan pricing. The friendly competition only helps prices if there are a lot of options out there, but not if all of those options are spending outrageous amounts of money fighting each other. Be very careful if you decide to switch plans, and make sure you are prepared for the possibility of paying much more in the long run.

Six Mobile Marketing Misconceptions

Mobile marketing has been around since the beginning days of text messaging. Despite the fact it’s been around a while, it is only in recent years that it has become so popular few businesses could ignore it. Whenever a business decides to take the leap into mobile marketing, they are unsure of how it works. As with any new technology, there are a lot of misconceptions out there surrounding mobile marketing. Let’s set the record straight and examine some of these so-called “mobile marketing musts.”

You Need A Mobile App
A lot of marketers will tell you that you absolutely have to have a mobile app for your business. The truth is, there are hundreds of thousands of apps. 99% of them will be opened once and deleted. Only the very best of the best apps are consistently downloaded and used. The other thing with mobile apps is that to design a good app costs a lot of money. There are the low budget apps that occasionally make it but they are the rare exceptions. If you are considering spending the money on a mobile app, make sure it’s spectacular and can do something no other app can, something that people will use consistently.

Mobile Marketing Is Just Selling Stuff
Though it is true that a lot of your businesses transactions can be done on mobile devices, not all mobile marketing has to be centered on selling your product. A major advantage to mobile marketing often overlooked is that it keeps businesses in close contact with their best customers. Mobile marketing can be used to send appointment reminders and receipts. It can also be used to get feedback from customers. If you think mobile marketing is only about mobile sales, think again.

Mobile Marketing Is For Big Brands
Though it’s true that the most recognizable mobile marketing campaigns belong to major corporations and big name brands, there are still thousands of successful campaigns operated on a smaller scale. Closely tied to this misconception is the idea that mobile marketing is expensive. Though it can be, it doesn’t have to be. Compared to other marketing channels, text message marketing is one of the most cost effective marketing strategies out there. For pennies you can send a text to a customer.

I Have Their Number, I Can Text Them
There’s more to mobile marketing than acquiring phone numbers and sending them texts. In fact, if you’re purchasing phone number lists, you’re doing something wrong. Not only is it illegal to send unsolicited messages to people, but it’s ineffective. If you’re going to spend money sending out hundreds or even thousands of texts, you want it to be to people who are most likely to make purchases. Find creative ways to build your phone number database. Offer a small freebie in exchange for opting in to receive your texts.

Mobile Marketing Appeals To The Young Only
This was mostly true several years ago but isn’t anymore. There are almost as many mobile phone contracts as there are people. Virtually every adult owns a mobile phone and the vast majority of them send and receive texts.

Mobile Marketing Is Just A Fad
Many people surprisingly believe that mobile marketing is just a passing phase. Some businesses are holding out thinking that once they jump on the bandwagon, the trend will pass. There are literally billions of mobile devices and they can all send and receive texts. Texting has surpassed face-to-face and phone conversations. It’s safe to say that SMS at least, isn’t going anywhere.

Mobile Marketing Predictions

Each new year brings changes to the mobile marketing industry. The year 2013 saw a lot of developments in the mobile marketing world and there’s no reason to believe it won’t be the same in 2014. Here’s a look at 2013 in review and changes you can expect to see in 2014.

2013 In Review

The past year was a big one for mobile marketing in several respects. For one, the smartphone market has surpassed 50% penetration (the cellphone market is already near 100% penetration). Not only are more people getting smartphones, but they’re using them to shop online too. This past black Friday saw an incredible 21.8% of sales come from mobile devices. Other developments in 2013 include:
  • Apple Passbook as become a major player in the mobile commerce platform becoming the fourth most popular mobile commerce app (it helps that iPhone owners can’t delete it)
  • Mobile and social media got married. Nearly half of Facebook’s users are accessing their Facebook account solely from mobile devices
  • The importance of mobile analytics is finally being realized
  • Location based apps becoming more passive but more aware

Predictions For 2014

Now here’s a look at some developments you’ll probably begin to see in 2014:
  • Wearable tech becomes mainstream. So far, the wearable tech craze hasn’t caught on with the masses. Expect to see the technology to become a little less expensive this year, and consequently, more popular. We might even see the tech giant, Apple release a competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Gear. This trend is especially important in terms of the implications for marketers. Because wearable tech is always on and goes wherever the owner does (even more so than smartphones) it is going to be transmitting more data than marketers know what to do with
  • Instagram becomes the number 1 social media site for brands. One reason for this is that the new generation of young teens isn’t embracing Facebook like the generation before them. As a result, brands who wish to reach younger audience are going to turn to Instagram
  • Mobile Services industry. Due to smartphones’ capability to geo-locate and constantly transmit data, more and more businesses are looking at ways to use mobile in the services industry. Imagine you can hail a cab or have your favorite fast food delivered directly to your location at the press of a button
  • Mobile computing replaces desktop computing. This is one that has been unfolding for a while now. Pay attention an you’ll notice that more and more often, you’re pulling out your smartphone or tablet to do things you used to do on your desktop. Other than work, we’re no longer accustomed to going to a specific place in the house to go online. As a result, one size fits all websites won’t cut it any longer
  • Hyper-location based marketing. This is like location based marketing but on a smaller scale. It goes beyond notifying customers when they’re near a store. It sends them deals specific to the part of the store they’re in. As the technology behind it improves and becomes less expensive, marketers are more likely to use it

Quick Mobile Keyboard Add-on For Your Smartphone

One of the worst parts of using a smartphone is the inability to type on the tiny, tiny keys. And top of that, you hope that the things you type won’t autocorrect to something really inappropriate, especially if you are trying to send a work email or text. Luckily, a new device may be just what you need. A mobile keyboard that you can connect to your phone could be exactly what you need to get through while working on your phone or even for lazy Sunday afternoon when texting to friends. And here’s all the juice you need to know about it.

All About The TrewGrip Mobile Keyboard Accessory

What do you think about this? You have, more or less, a keyboard that hooks onto your phone. The phone suctions to the middle of it, and they keyboard falls on both sides of the phone. Then, you can easily hold the keyboard/phone and type to people without having to deal with tiny buttons that might leave you saying the wrong thing. According to NBC News, after getting used to the way the buttons sit, it is actually a seamless way to quickly type emails and messages to your friends, family, or even your co-workers. There may be a lot of uses for it such as working in the medical industry to use in retail to use in your own home.

Not For Everywhere You Go

One thing to note about this keyboard is that it isn’t something you will take with you. It is more of a mobile keyboard accessory that you will keep on the couch to type while watching TV or that you will take with you on a road trip in case you need to send some emails or texts while on the road. It is a way of making your phone completely user friendly, or at least as friendly as a laptop, without having to actually buy a new laptop. So, maybe it isn’t for everyone. It might mostly be for students or entrepreneurs trying to work everywhere they go.

Is It For You?

Realistically, this kind of keyboard isn’t for everyone. It’s way too bulky to take with you everywhere you go. It’s not like you can fit it in your pocket or your purse. So, most people won’t find a lot of use for it. However, it seems like people aren’t even using their computers anymore. Smartphones have practically replaced laptops since they are easy to use everywhere you go, so maybe it would be more convenient to own just a smartphone instead of a laptop and keep one of these around for the times you need to type up a long email. Maybe instead of owning a computer, which can get really expensive, you could just keep everything you need on the cloud and access it from your smartphone. It is just one option for people in our world where personal computers have become a little bit less essential. However, if you have a laptop already and don’t do a lot on your phone besides the occasional email or text, then it may not matter much anyway. It all depends on what works best for you.

Mobile Marketing Is Changing The Customer Experience

Marketing is nothing like it was 20 years ago. Companies used television and radio ads, billboards, and magazines to advertise products. Customers who are enticed by those advertisements would head to the store to look at those items and then decide whether or not to buy them. Today, customers aren’t as likely to head to the store to look at a product in person. Anyone with a smartphone can research products from the comfort of their living room. Within moments of seeing an advertisement that interests them, they can pull up customer reviews, competing products, and then start doing some price comparisons. The moment of decision to purchase is no longer at the store but before the customer steps foot out of the house. The goal then for marketers today is to search for new marketing channels that can influence customers no matter where they are or what they’re doing.

Go Mobile

When customers leave a store empty handed, a third of the time it’s because they found a better deal online via their smartphone. If your business isn’t utilizing mobile, chances are this is happening at your store. If you want to be on the other end, the business that’s drawing the customers away from competitors, you’ll need to have a mobile marketing strategy. Here’s a look at what you’ll want to accomplish with your mobile marketing campaign:
·        Make it easy for customers to compare and evaluate products that you offer
·        Discover which people are interested in learning more about your company
·        Provide a way for your customers to communicate with you by participating in surveys or by providing feedback
Above all, a mobile marketing campaign should make your customers’ lives easier rather than harder. Make sure that your customers (not money) are central to all your marketing efforts.

Use What You Know

In this day and age, companies are capable of collecting more data about customers and their behavior than ever before. The problem is, most businesses don’t know what to do with all the data they’re collecting. The secret to finding what marketing strategies will work well for your customers lies in the data you collect from them. Currently, 82% of retailers aren’t using social media and mobile channels to engage with customers. Be part of the 18% and you’ll have a major advantage.

Create Mobile Engagement

It’s not enough to just have the tools in place. You also need to get customers to engage with your business through their mobile devices. There are a few ways you can push your customers towards engagement:
·        Design a mobile website. Your mobile customers that search for you on the web are less likely to engage on a website that is intended for a desktop or laptop
·        Use mobile messaging. Texting is a great way to communicate with customers. It’s immediate, it’s easy, and it’s personal
·        Use the customer data you have to make each customer’s experience personalized
·        Invest in mobile SEO to reach potential customers while they’re trying to make a decision

The Laws of Social Media Marketing

Social media is without question, one of the most effective marketing tools a business owner can have. Not only is it free but it is a great way to keep in contact with your most loyal customers and to find new ones. But just as there are traffic laws to keep us safe, there are social media marketing laws that will protect your business's image from harm. Social media is a powerful tool but make a mistake with it and everyone sees it. When used improperly social media can ruin your company's image.

Here are six social media marketing laws to keep in mind:

The Law of Listening
Just as with any other marketing channel, it's important to know your target audience. The last thing they want is more clutter in their social media experience. If you want your customers to follow your company on social media then you need to give them what they want, not what you think they want. You can do a little investigative work to see what kind of online content your target audience likes. You can even come out and ask them for feedback using social media.

The Law of Patience
This is a law that could just as easily apply to any other marketing channel. Any new marketing strategy takes some time to get going. Set realistic expectations when it comes to social media marketing. Simply creating a Facebook page doesn't mean you'll have thousands of likes by the end of the week. Success will social media marketing can be immediate if you do it correctly but it may not happen as fast as you want it to.

The Law of Accessibility
It's not enough to just occasionally post content. If you're simply writing a post now and then and then disappearing, you aren't making yourself accessible to your audience. It's called social media for a reason. Your business needs to be social. Participate in the conversations happening on your page. Make sure you're replying to customer feedback as soon as possible whether the feedback is good or bad (especially when it's bad).

The Law of Compounding
The real power of social media is the snowball effect. You only have to get the ball rolling and the rest will take care of itself. As long as you're posting quality content and maintaining a positive presence on social media your satisfied customers will start doing your advertising work for you by sharing your posts with their friends and by using the “check in” feature when they visit your business location.

The Law of Value
Consumers grow tired of constant, blatant advertising. Instead of using social media to push your product or service, use it as a way to post valuable content. The occasional advertisement is probably alright but be careful not to over do it.

The Law of Acknowledgment
Finally, make sure that those who follow you on social media feel acknowledge. No one likes to feel ignored. Make sure you regularly acknowledge your customers and make sure they feel appreciated. You can do this by occasionally offering them special deals or by asking for their feedback. The little things go a long way in showing that you care about your customers.

Are You Ready For A New Samsung Product?

The new Samsung products are always awesome. The company has been innovating a lot lately, meaning the new product announcements will blow you away. The last time they released something really cool was the smartwatch, which you really should try if you get the chance. The smartwatch was the first real wearable technology available that gives you everything you need from your phone right on your wrist. Now, the new Samsung Galaxy S5 concept could be what you want next.

News of The Samsung Galaxy S5

Though everything is just speculation at this point, a lot of people hope that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a curved screen. Though it may not be possible by the time the phone releases, most of the phone buffs are hoping to see this kind of improvement in screen quality and technology by the time of release. The new screen size will be 5.25” of 2K Ultra HD LTPS and will likely come from Sharp, which isn’t terrible for Samsung since it owns shares in Sharp, according to Design Trend. People are hoping and wishing that there will be added specs and features, though more than likely, the new phones will really just be a slightly larger version of products currently on the market.

The Better And The Worse

The new Smartphone products will have super smartphones. Instead of offering a regular version and a cheapened version of the phone, which so many manufacturers have been known to do in the past to increase sales, Samsung is going to start offering a regular version and a super, more expensive version. For tech geeks, this is great news. Maybe you can’t customize it, but at least you can get all the little features you want on your phone.

To Be Released In February

The new Samsung phone is expected to release in February, which is far too soon for the curved phone screens. It will, however, be a nice surprise for anyone looking to upgrade their phone to the next best thing with Samsung. The larger size screen will allow you to have a more functional phone and the ability to complete more tasks with it.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S5 The Phone For You?

Do you think you would be better off with a Samsung? A Windows Phone? An Android operating system or an iOS operating system? Do you want Apple? or Google? What would work best? When trying to answer these questions, you’ll need to determine your need. A smaller phone with fewer up-to-date features would be more appropriate for someone who just uses the phone for a few emails, phone calls, and chats a day. This kind of new Samsung phone would be great for someone who is trying to avoid buying a tablet for gaming. It also works well if you work off your phone all the time. Say, for example, you spend a lot of time out in the field and need to take pictures, send emails, create spreadsheets, and more from your phone. Then the new Samsung Galaxy S5 might be the phone for you. We’ll just have to wait until February’s release when we can find out more information on the phone.

Upgrade Your Smartphone Before 2 Years Is Up

A few days ago, I was walking around Walmart and dropped my phone on the ground. Not only is it devastating when your smartphone breaks, you know, the thing your whole world revolves around, but it is even worse when people see it happen. There was a man near me who asked as I picked it up, “Did it make it?” Sadly, it did not. And the most frustrating part was being able to hear the phone ring and see messages blinking without any access to them because the screen was broken. Do you know how much it costs to upgrade your smartphone before your 2 years is up? Pretty much around $500 to $800 depending on the phone you get. But maybe there is a free way around that if you aren’t too attached to your carrier.

Announcement From T-Mobile
AT&T recently announced that T-Mobile customers could get an absurd amount of cash by switching carriers. Now, T-Mobile is fighting back by announcing that any phone owners on any plan can switch over to T-Mobile. And the best part? You don’t have pay any of your cancellation fees for terminating the contract. More or less, T-Mobile will pay all your cancellation fees up to $650 per line to get you as a new customer, according to CNET. T-Mobile wasn’t very happy when the announcement came from AT&T specifically targeting T-Mobile. It was pretty wise for T-Mobile to target the entire industry instead of just AT&T in a spitting war. Now, you can change over to T-Mobile and upgrade your phone for a new one even if your contract isn’t up.

Do You Need To Upgrade Your Smartphone?
The best part is that you can do this whether your phone breaks or not. Maybe you just don’t like your phone. Maybe a new phone came out that is just better than your old one. Maybe your work demands you have a larger screen or you need something smaller to fit in your pocket. Whatever your reason for wanting a phone right now, you can upgrade your smartphone at any time by just switching to T-Mobile. There’s absolutely no fuss.

T-Mobile Looking Attractive
It used to be that T-Mobile just wasn’t good enough for most people. Of the larger carrier, it has the fewest customers. The company has an UnCarrier Strategy now to eliminate contracts and give people a chance to upgrade phones sooner than ever. Every change they make is meant to take away all your problem and make having a phone easier. Maybe the carrier isn’t so bad anymore and deserves a chance.

What I Should Have Done
Unfortunately, my phone broke before the T-Mobile announcement was made, but if it hadn’t, I would have definitely made the change. When my phone broke, I would have gone over to T-Mobile and made the switch in a heartbeat. And then I would have gotten an even better phone than I have now. Instead, I went online and bought one used from someone in town. Oh well. Maybe in another year and a half, I’ll finally qualify for an upgrade.

Smartphone Apps Making The Big Bucks

Every day, you get on your smartphone and use at least one app. Chances are, you’re using multiple apps a day. Some of the apps won’t cost you anything, but most of them were either purchased or you are making in-app purchases with them. You can bet that smartphone apps are making the big bucks, or they have some purpose to ultimately make someone money. Just how much money do people spend on apps?

Apple Selling Smartphone Apps

If Apple just made money off the smartphones, tablets, and computers it sells you, it would still make a pretty profit every year. But with a cut of every smartphone app sold, Apple is making a lot of extra money with every thing you do on your iPhone. With a 30% cut on every app purchase made, Apple has made over $3 billion in revenue in the last year, according to the Wall Street Journal. That’s quite a bit of extra cash for the technology Giant just by taking a cut of what other people are selling.

Used To Be All Apple

It used to be that all most of the “good” apps were only available on Apple products, giving the company a huge edge over the competition, but now app developers are creating smartphone apps available to all of the platforms. In fact, there are so many more options for Android phones that some of the app developers are exclusively developing Android apps instead of Apple. Though Apple is still doing extremely well, it has lost the competitive edge given when exclusivity was still around.

Create Your App

Your company could probably benefit from an app, especially if you sell product online. Having an app reminds customers to check out what you currently offer and makes it much more streamlined. If you have regular customers, being able to view the details of their orders by simply opening an app is a lot easier than trying to load the website on a mobile device, and most people want to check those order statuses while on the go. It also helps for services, so you can easily show your clients the status of your projects. Offering a place for people to go and check themselves on the product will also greatly decrease the number of customers calling in for information, so you won’t need such a large customer service team.

Consider A Texting Program

Another thing you might want to consider is a texting program that allows your customers to text quick questions in for your business to reply. For example, your customer might just want to know what hours you are open or your address, so they can come on over and check out your store. In these situations, it is way easier to send a text than to make a phone call, especially if they are at work or on the road with friends while trying to gather the information. With the right mobile updates including smartphone apps, you could make a lot of extra cash.
